Level 2 Employability Skills Course Overview
This Level 2 employability skills course leads to the Focus Awards Level 2 Award in Employability Skills (RQF), an Ofqual-regulated qualification for people who are preparing to apply for jobs, returning to work after a break or changing career. It concentrates on the stages where many applicants lose confidence: getting ready for an interview, performing well on the day and showing an employer what you can offer.
You will learn how to research a role and prepare for the questions you are likely to face, practise your interview technique, and carry out an honest self-assessment of your strengths and the areas you want to develop. The course then looks at what makes someone effective at work, how teams operate and how to contribute to one, and the main rights and responsibilities of employers and employees. It is a step up from our Level 1 Certificate in Employability Skills, which offers a broader introduction to the workplace, and like all our courses it is studied entirely online.
Career Opportunities and Progression after the Level 2 Award in Employability Skills
The award does not train you for one particular job; instead, it prepares you for the recruitment process in almost any sector. Being able to talk confidently about your strengths, give examples of good teamwork and show that you understand your responsibilities at work can make a real difference at interview, whether you are applying for your first role, returning after time away or moving into a new area of work.
To keep developing, you could take our Level 2 Award in Workskills, which builds self-management skills and the ability to give and receive feedback, or the Level 2 Award in Employment Rights and Responsibilities, which looks at employment rights, contracts and workplace procedures in more depth. If you are aiming for a specific sector, the award also sits well alongside vocational courses in areas such as care, early years, education and business.
Do I need a work placement to complete this course?
No. You do not need a job or a work placement to achieve this award. Some units ask you to put skills into practice, such as taking part in a mock interview and working with others on a shared task. You can evidence these through activities arranged with your tutor online, or by drawing on recent experience from volunteering, study or previous work.
There are no exams. You build a portfolio of evidence that is internally assessed by your tutor and externally quality assured by Focus Awards. Your portfolio may include written assignments, worksheets, reflective accounts and evidence of practical activities such as a mock interview. Assignments are marked within 3–5 working days, or 1–3 working days on Priority Track.
You complete six mandatory units.
Unit 01: Preparing for an Interview
Unit 02: Interview Skills
Unit 03: Self-assessment
Unit 04: Effectiveness at Work
Unit 05: Working in a Team
Unit 06: Investigating Rights and Responsibilities at Work
The award has 72 guided learning hours (GLH) and a total qualification time (TQT) of 90 hours. Study is self-paced, and most learners complete it in 2–3 months. Your enrolment includes 12 months’ access to the learning platform and tutor support from the date you enrol; if you need more time, you can extend your access for a re-enrolment fee.
