Level 1 Certificate in Well-Being Course Overview
The NCFE CACHE Level 1 Certificate in Well-Being is an Ofqual-regulated qualification that helps you understand how everyday lifestyle choices affect your own health and the well-being of the people around you. Open to learners aged 14 and over, it is a practical, knowledge-based wellbeing course online that builds awareness and confidence, and helps you make informed, healthier decisions – useful in daily life and as a first step towards study in health, public services or care.
Our programme covers five units. You will learn how substance misuse and alcohol can affect individuals, families and communities, how to recognise and reduce risks to your personal safety, why healthy eating and drinking matter for adults, and what dementia is and how it affects the people who live with it. This is an awareness qualification, not therapy or mental health treatment, and it does not train you to give professional advice or support. If mental health is your main interest, the Level 2 Certificate in Awareness of Mental Health Problems is a natural next step from age 16.
Career Opportunities and Progression after the Well-Being Certificate
This is a personal development qualification rather than a job qualification, so it does not prepare you for a specialist role on its own. It does give you a recognised wellbeing qualification that shows colleges and employers your interest in health and care. The knowledge it builds – about healthy lifestyles, alcohol and substance misuse, personal safety and dementia – is relevant to volunteering and to entry-level roles where you support or care for other people.
Many learners use it as a stepping stone to further study. If you are thinking about a career in care, you could move on to the NCFE CACHE Level 1 Diploma in Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings, which introduces adult care, early years and children’s services. From age 16, Level 2 knowledge qualifications such as the Level 2 Certificate in Awareness of Mental Health Problems or the Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Children and Young People’s Mental Health let you explore well-being topics in more depth.
Do I need a work placement to complete this course?
No. This is a knowledge-based qualification, so you do not need to be working, volunteering or on placement. Everything is studied and assessed online, and you can draw on everyday examples from your own life where it helps.
There are no exams. For each unit you complete a portfolio of evidence – usually written answers and short tasks – which is internally assessed by your tutor and externally quality assured by NCFE. The qualification is graded Achieved or Not Yet Achieved. Assignments are marked within 3–5 working days, or 1–3 working days on Priority Track.
There are no mandatory units: to achieve the Certificate you need at least 13 credits from the optional units. Our programme covers the following five units, which together make up 13 credits.
Unit 01: Develop an Awareness of Substance Misuse
Unit 02: Personal Safety Awareness
Unit 03: Introductory Awareness of the Importance of Healthy Eating and Drinking for Adults
Unit 04: Introduction to Alcohol Awareness for the Individual
Unit 05: Dementia Awareness
The qualification has 103 guided learning hours (GLH) and a total qualification time (TQT) of 130 hours. Study is self-paced, and most learners complete it in 2–4 months, depending on how much time they can give each week. Your enrolment includes 12 months’ access to the learning platform and tutor support from the date you enrol; if you need longer, you can extend your access for a re-enrolment fee.
